What TAAUP Does

The Tennessee Conference of the AAUP provides services to its constituent colleges and universities and to the state as a whole, and strives to protect the rights of all faculty members in Tennessee public and private institutions, whether they are full-time or adjunct, tenured, tenure track, or non-tenure track. We attempt to help government officials, the media and the general public understand the importance of higher education in helping students become more competitive in a global economy and more capable of exercising their rights and responsibilities as citizens, and to convey the vital role that faculty plays in achieving those goals.

Why Serve?

The National AAUP offers many faculty development opportunities like training at the Summer Institute; travel opportunities like attending the biennial meetings (this year in Chicago; previously in Washington, D.C.); and opportunities to meet with national leaders in higher education; and even to liaise with national and local politicians. The AAUP has existed over one hundred years and has been instrumental in making U.S. Higher Ed the envy of the world in many ways. National AAUP Policy serves as the basis for most faculty handbooks and academic policies in the U. S. Academic Freedom is the foundation of U.S. Higher Ed and is defended fiercely by the AAUP.

Consider becoming a leader in the AAUP today!

You will gain and the U.S. and the state of Tennessee will gain. There are publishing opportunities in the journal Academe and Academe blog. You can even put this service on your C.V.! We must protect our system of Higher Education in the precarious future we face. Please join us!
